the first VC-77 was a vocal fabricator. you typed a phrase and it printed 16 takes locked to a grid, with a bpm, a seed and a destruction amount on every card.
i hated using it. nothing made a sound until it finished rendering, and i was reading numbers when i wanted to hear a voice.
two days later i threw the grid out and rebuilt it as a voice box. type, it talks right away. loop it. twist the effects while it runs. save the wav when it sounds right. the wav goes through the same chain you were just twisting, so what you heard is what lands in the daw.
it has four throats now. CHIP is an old 8-bit speech synth. BROWSER is whatever voices your system has. MIC is you. NEURAL is two piper voices, one russian and one english, about 63 mb each, and i put them inside the site instead of pulling them from someone’s server. the repo got 160 mb fatter. from russia half the internet loads when it feels like it, so i’d rather carry the weight.
with one word in the box you get the one-shot tricks. a whole phrase hides them. there’s no “target word” setting, the box works it out.
